Mission & Philosophy
Preparing young people to attend college after high school is a job to be taken seriously, and it is manifest in our mission:
Seay Educational Consulting navigates college-bound students and their families through the college admission process as they search for, apply to, and earn offers of admission from right-fit colleges and universities. We train them to make decisions, solve problems, set goals and work hard to achieve them, and to take responsibility for college application outcomes.
Our plan to achieve that is both dynamic and individual, one in which student and counselor meet to assess academic performance, standardized test results, interests, extracurricular activities, and personal qualities in order to develop a list of colleges to which he will apply. Throughout the process, students are encouraged to challenge their own assumptions about themselves and about the colleges they are considering. Whether the practice remains at one consultant or grows to many, commitment, innovation, and insightful advocacy will remain our focus. In addition, we see it as our personal and professional responsibility to exemplify the moral, intellectual, physical, and social skills which clients themselves will need in order to be successful in college. We are committed to creating open lines of communication, honest feedback, and a spirit of cooperation with students and parents. We create a safe environment characterized by patience, a sense of humor, and the understanding that we can all learn from the student’s unique experiences in the college admission process. We can even have fun.
Although the obvious thrust of Seay Educational Consulting is to introduce students and their families to the college admission process and to work with them for the duration of that process, an underlying goal is to train our students to make decisions, to solve problems, to set goals and work hard to achieve them, and to take personal responsibility in seeking and earning offers from the colleges to which they apply. They themselves must be the force behind the process . . . making use of the support of family and counselor but ultimately taking ownership of their plans for the future. The long-term benefits they reap for short-term efforts are immeasurable. Seay Educational Consulting wants to play a part in such an education.
